Living in Slaton

The movie Ransom Canyon, based on the book series by Jodi Thomas, is set in the rugged landscape of West Texas, specifically around the fictional town of Ransom Canyon — inspired by the real Ransom Canyon located just outside of Slaton, Texas.

Jodi Thomas, a Texas native, modeled the setting after this area’s dramatic canyons, wide-open ranch land, and close-knit rural communities. So while the town in the story is fictional, the setting is very much rooted in the real-life Ransom Canyon area in Lubbock County.
